That is shade cloth on my window. I have hung it on all my windows because it keeps the house cooler. I will be making awnings for the shade cloth after the roof is finished. I think I am going to use cattle panels?

  2. So how's your new roof? Should I really call it new? It's been 2 years since this blog post was made. But I understand the feeling of having a new roof for your house.

  3. The power of insurance is really amazing, isn't it? That aside, it's really nice that you're not spending anything for your new roof. Although it's sad that you lost your old one because of a storm.

  4. The roof is an important element of a home, as it encloses the main foundation such as wall, and the other structural components such as the windows. It’s good that you had your roof fixed right after you found out it was damaged. Best regards to you, Becky! =)

  5. That must have been one heck of a storm if it did that much damage to your old roof that you would need a new one! What kind of roofing material have you chosen to go with now? A lot of people are going with concrete and slate shingles today because they’re more eco-friendly than asphalt, and a little more affordable. Others are picking metal sheets because they’re lightweight and long-lasting – up to 150 years!

  6. Very well said, Santo! Storms are the most unavoidable calamity that leaves awful damage to our home. It’s been years since the blow, and many more storms are still in line, I hope you’re doing well. Stay safe!

  7. Rolf is right! The weather has become even more volatile and unpredictable in the past few years, so it’s really important that our roofs can handle the worst attacks. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” after all. It’s good to do regular cleaning and maintenance of the roof, especially before the storms come, to make sure that when the weather does attack, our roofs, whether or old or new, can withstand it.

  8. Yeah, home renovations can be pretty noisy, but hey, at least you know your home is being protected and cared for! I hope your new roof didn’t cost a lot, or at least was covered by your insurance? It’s been a few years since the renovations, and I hope your roof has withstood the weather changes since then. I hope you haven’t had to fix your roof again since this post!

  9. Time and again, it's the weather that is our roof's greatest rival! Hehe. I have to ask though - why did the workers start without your approval? I mean, that is part of the professional protocol of any roofing contractor, to ask for permission to work on your roof before they do so. Nevertheless, I do hope they did a good job working on the roof of your house, and that it’s still standing strong today. :)

  10. As far a s I know homeowners insurance policies typically cover repairing leaks and related damages just the same as to what happened with your house. But, this insurance might not cover replacing the entire roof. So, thank goodness that your homeowners provided you with the entire roof!

  11. It is a very wise decision to have home insurance, whether or not you are in a place where storms are abundant. You can never know what will and can happen in the future, and as we all know, the weather is very unpredictable.
